After nearly two weeks since the conclusion of the PCS Spring Split, Beyond Gaming, a Taiwanese organization, has announced that it will be discontinuing its operations.
Beyond Gaming – facing financial challenges
The esports organization, founded by former professional player Xue “DinTer” Hong-Wei, has made the tough decision to withdraw from the PCS due to financial struggles and difficulties in securing sponsors. The team is now looking for a replacement to fill its spot.
Established in 2021, Beyond Gaming aimed to make an impact in the local esports scene. They took over the spot of the renowned ahq eSports Club, known for their impressive performance at Worlds in 2015.
Despite being relatively new, Beyond Gaming quickly made a name for themselves in the competitive scene. They consistently reached the playoffs in every PCS split since their debut, showcasing their dedication and ambition. The team also represented their region at Worlds in 2021 and 2022.
However, maintaining competitive success came at a high operational cost for Beyond Gaming. The team’s announcement cited these escalating costs as a major factor in their decision to disband, especially coupled with the declining health of owner DinTer.
The issue of financial sustainability is a common challenge in the esports industry and has affected numerous organizations in recent years. Beyond Gaming is the latest casualty in this trend, as they exit the league, leaving a void to be filled in the PCS.
As organizers search for a replacement team, PSG Talon will continue to represent the region at the upcoming Mid-Season Invitational, the first international event of the year.
