The first gameplay footage of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was revealed at Xbox’s January Developer Direct showcase. The game is set to be released later this year.
The showcase provided over 10 minutes of gameplay and information about Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. The game’s story is set between Raiders of the Lost Arc and Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, focusing on Indy’s quest to discover why a seemingly insignificant artifact was stolen. The gameplay presentation was the most compelling part of the event.
Unlike Uncharted or Tomb Raider games, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be played from a first-person perspective for immersion, while also including third-person perspective for traversal and cutscenes. The footage showcased gunplay, fistfights, whip-based combat, platforming, and puzzle-solving in a globe-trotting adventure through numerous environments.
The game also offers multiple ways to approach encounters. Developer MachineGames, known for the modern Wolfenstein games, has previously kept silent on this project since its announcement in January 2021.
The title was revealed by Bethesda with a teaser featuring the studio’s name on a typewriter, old journals and maps, and Indiana Jones’s iconic whip. Many see MachineGames as the perfect team to take on the Indiana Jones IP, given their experience with Nazi antagonists in the Wolfenstein series.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is currently slated for release in 2024 as an Xbox-exclusive title.
