The highly anticipated Batman: Arkham Shadow is set to be a VR-only title. Users who purchase the Meta Quest 3 or the recently announced Quest 3S headsets will receive the game for free.
For those who do not qualify for the free offer, Arkham Shadow can be purchased from the Meta Quest store for $50. Make sure to wishlist the game in advance of its release on October 22. Additionally, anyone who buys a Quest 3 or 3S headset between September 25 and April 30, 2025, will also receive a copy of the game.
The Quest 3S headset, available for pre-order after its unveiling at Meta Connect 2024, is priced at $300 and will start shipping on October 15. Players will have to wait until October 22 to play Arkham: Shadow on this device. Purchasers will also get three months of Meta Quest+ subscription.
Arkham Shadow was revealed as a Quest 3-exclusive game in May by Camouflaj, creators of Iron Man VR, and Meta’s Oculus Studios in cooperation with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, DC, and veterans from Rocksteady. The game serves as a prequel to Arkham Asylum and follows a young Batman facing off against the Rat King.
Similar to previous Arkham games, known for their groundbreaking gameplay mechanics in the third-person action genre, Arkham Shadow will offer intense, first-person gameplay from Batman’s perspective. The game will also include characters like Harvey Dent, Dr. Harleen Quinzel, Jim Gordon, and Barbara Gordon.
As the first DC game post-Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League by Rocksteady earlier this year, the launch was met with negative reviews and poor sales. It struggled to perform, causing significant financial loss for Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that developers from Rocksteady were involved in creating Arkham: Shadow. The game was developed in partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, DC, and veterans from Rocksteady.
