Exciting updates are on the horizon for Balatro, with the announcement of four video game crossovers in the upcoming Friends of Jimbo update, revealed during the August 2024 Indie World Showcase. The new card skins will be available starting this Tuesday.
The popular poker roguelike game will feature cosmetic card skins inspired by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Dave the Diver, Vampire Survivors, and Among Us. The crossover with Dave the Diver was previously teased in a trailer at Gamescom 2024, but the addition of characters from The Witcher and Vampire Survivors came as a surprise.
Each crossover introduces new face cards, which can be toggled on or off in the deck settings menu. It is yet to be revealed if these cards will have any additional effects during gameplay.
Developer LocalThunk expressed excitement about the collaborations, stating, “It was surreal having these conversations. Some of the biggest names in gaming praising my little project and wanting to collaborate — absolutely wild. I’m glad we made it happen!”
This is the second major update for Balatro, with publisher Playstack Games hinting at a total of three big updates. Players can look forward to more cards being added to the game in later 2024, with a big free update scheduled for 2025.
Playstack Games promises that the final reveal will be “a banger,” hinting at even more surprises in store for Balatro players.
