Obsidian Entertainment’s highly anticipated RPG Avowed has been delayed until next year. According to a tweet from Xbox, the new release date is set for February 18, 2025.
Xbox made the announcement on Friday, stating that the delay of Avowed is to allow players’ backlogs some breathing room. With several other titles scheduled for release later this year, including expansions for World of Warcraft and Diablo 4, as well as new games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, delaying Avowed ensures it doesn’t get overshadowed and gives more time for development.
So many games coming! As such, we’re moving Avowed to Feb 18, 2025 to give players’ backlogs some breathing room.

The original release window was mentioned during Xbox’s January Developer Direct, but no updates have been provided since then. More information about the game has surfaced in 2024, including details about its gameplay and setting. Avowed will be hub-based rather than an open-world game, giving players plenty of choices that can impact gameplay and narrative. The game will be set in the Pillars of Eternity universe in a world called Eora, although specifics about the story remain unknown.
Xbox is expected to provide updates on Avowed and other upcoming titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Starfield: Shattered Space at Gamescom later this month. While release dates for the latter two games are still unknown, Xbox seems confident that they will both be released in 2024.
