Atlassian unveiled its new AI assistant, Rovo, during its Team ’24 conference in Las Vegas. Rovo integrates data from various first- and third-party tools and offers easy access through AI-powered search functionality. Notably, Rovo Agents allow automation of workflows in tools like Jira and Confluence, and users can create them using a natural language interface without any programming knowledge.
According to Sherif Mansour, Atlassian’s head of product for Atlassian Intelligence, Rovo acts as a comprehensive knowledge model for organizations, enhancing productivity and streamlining work processes for knowledge workers.
At the core of Rovo is Atlassian’s ‘cloud teamwork graph,’ which also underpins Atlassian Intelligence. The graph consolidates data from Atlassian’s products and third-party SaaS tools to facilitate better access to information for users.
Rovo enhances teamwork by helping teams connect with their work, facilitating learning, and enabling action. It offers support for various third-party tools like Google Drive, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, GitHub, Slack, and Figma.
Enterprises can also create custom connectors to integrate their proprietary tools. For example, Atlassian developed a connector for its own internal developer documentation, resulting in significant time savings for developers.
Rovo also functions as a chat service and uses retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to provide customized answers. To ensure credibility, the sources are cited, and interactive previews are available for certain content types.
Noteworthy features of Rovo include detecting and explaining company jargon and a Chrome extension that explains company-specific terms in tools like Google Docs. This feature is powered by Rovo’s semantic search engine.
Virtual Teammates
Rovo Agents, described as “virtual teammates,” enhance teamwork by synthesizing enterprise data, automating tasks, and aiding in decision-making processes. These agents can perform various tasks such as content generation, task automation, and providing recommendations.
Mansour envisions a future where virtual teammates play a pivotal role in daily workflows, collaborating with human counterparts seamlessly to boost productivity and efficiency.
These agents empower users to automate tasks, streamline workflows, and collaborate more efficiently, illustrating a shift towards a future where virtual and human teammates work seamlessly together.
