Koei Tecmo’s Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy & the Liberator of Polar Night has exceeded $50 million in total revenue, based on data from AppMagic.
The game was initially released in Japan on September 23rd, 2023, followed by a global launch on January 25th, 2024. This early release in Japan gave a significant boost to consumer spending, which has been maintained ever since.
Japan has contributed $45.9 million to Atelier Resleriana’s revenue, accounting for 91% of the total player spending in the RPG adventure.
Taiwan and the US are the second and third largest markets for Atelier Resleriana, contributing $1.5 million and $1.2 million respectively, making up approximately 3% each.
Fueled by fan favorites
Atelier Resleriana’s revenue has fluctuated over the past 10 months, with revenue peaks associated with the introduction of new gacha characters and declines during lulls between new banners. This pattern is common among gacha games, including Kuro Games’ recent success, Wuthering Waves.
Koei Tecmo leverages a 27-year-old franchise to draw characters from, focusing on fan-favorite characters. The initial banner featured new heroine Resna alongside series veterans Marie, Judith, and Ryza, the latter being the popular heroine of the Atelier Ryza series.
Since its launch, Atelier Resleriana has experienced various revenue peaks, with the most significant one occurring on October 10th, generating $1.1 million on the day of the Chapter 4 update and featuring original character Valeria and fan-favorite Klaudia in a new banner.
Despite revenue fluctuations, with peaks during certain banners and declines overall, the game has amassed $50.2 million in player spending to date. As the game approaches its first anniversary in Japan, there may be potential for another revenue boost.
