With just a few months left until the release of Astro Bot on PlayStation 5, fans can now look forward to a limited edition DualSense controller to complement the game.
Team Asobi, the developers behind Astro, have unveiled the Astro Bot Limited Edition controller, featuring the beloved PlayStation mascot. It will be available for pre-order starting at 7 a.m. PT on August 9 for $80, with full sales launching on Astro Bot release day, September 6.
This special DualSense controller pays homage to Astro, with his eyes featured on the touchpad. The design of the controller is inspired by the Dual Speeder, featuring a predominantly white body with dark blue handles and light-blue accents on the buttons.
The Astro series is renowned for showcasing PlayStation features in its technical demos, with Astro’s Playroom highlighting the capabilities of the PlayStation 5 and the new DualSense controller. Team Asobi’s head, Nicolas Doucet, shared in a PlayStation blog post that the new game will introduce even more interactions between Astro Bot and the DualSense controller.
One of the significant enhancements includes improvements to haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, providing players with enhanced tactile experiences during movement and combat. For instance, players will feel the thruster as they engage the trigger for the bulldog jetpack. The haptics will also simulate textures and impacts, such as responding differently to sand or the force of a large boss slamming the ground.
In addition to these features, the controller incorporates trigger and haptic feedback related to the Dual Speeder design, along with motion control elements.
