Apple is rumored to be developing a new display-focused smart home device that may launch next year. According to Bloomberg, Apple is working on two devices at different price points that will introduce a new AI-first software approach.
The high-end device, codenamed J595, features a large iPad-inspired screen and robotic limbs. The other device, internally known as J490, is a more conventional smart display with a screen on a speaker base, primarily for FaceTime and smart home control.
Unlike the Vision Pro, Apple’s smart display entry will target the lower end of the price spectrum. The J490 device is expected to be more affordable.
While similar devices exist from Amazon and Google, Apple’s differentiation will come from its AI-powered software ecosystem known as Apple Intelligence. The devices will be running on the branded homeOS software.
The user-friendly design will support essential apps like Calendar, Notes, and Home for easy device control and monitoring through homeOS. The devices are a result of Apple’s collaboration between AI and hardware engineering teams.
The devices are expected to be priced around $1,000, reflecting the advanced technology and features of Apple Intelligence. Apple will need to convince users to invest in their ecosystem rather than rely on third-party solutions.
It will be intriguing to see how Apple markets these devices to smart home enthusiasts and emphasizes seamless ecosystem integration.
