Niantic announced today that it is introducing support for its 8th Wall Metaversal Deployment to the Apple Vision Pro headset. This allows creators to easily deploy apps built for other mixed reality headsets to Apple’s headset without extensive additional work, granting access to the Vision Pro’s complete VR environment.
Metaversal Deployment is Niantic’s solution for distributing mixed reality experiences via WebAR, enabling developers to deploy spatial computing across various platforms. Initially launched in 2021 for mobile devices and computers, it was updated in 2023 to include support for the Meta Quest 3.
Niantic highlighted the unique opportunities the Apple Vision Pro offers for 8th Wall developers, despite limited camera access to the browser. Developers can leverage the Vision Pro’s advanced VR capabilities to create an asymmetrical experience across multiple platforms.
Tom Emrich, Niantic’s director of product for augmented reality platforms, stated, “We are dedicated to providing developers with tools that support a new consumer device ecosystem, including headsets like the Apple Vision Pro. With a variety of MR headsets now available for consumers, cross-device content creation has become crucial for engaging a broad user base. We are making this possible through our web development platform, 8th Wall’s Metaversal Deployment, where developers can build once and deploy across computers, smartphones, and headsets like Meta Quest and now Apple Vision Pro.”
