Apple Intelligence made significant strides towards broader availability on Thursday with the release of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 public betas.
Users enrolled in Apple’s public beta program can now experience the AI-driven platform the company has been promoting since June.
Currently, Apple Intelligence is only accessible in U.S. English and is not yet available in the EU and China due to regulatory challenges. Users in the US can utilize Apple Intelligence on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and any device from the new iPhone 16 series.
TechCrunch has been testing the developer beta of iOS 18.1 during the iPhone 16 Pro Max review, highlighting features like cross-system writing tools, Clean Up for Photos, and significant enhancements to Siri.
The new Writing Tools feature uses generative AI for proofreading, summarizing, and rewriting text in various styles. Siri has been redesigned with a cleaner onscreen appearance and improved functionality, including better understanding of speech interruptions and the ability to type commands.
One of the major enhancements to Siri is product knowledge, allowing users to ask for help with on-device tasks. Additional features like conversational context and Visual Intelligence are expected in the future.
In Photos, the Clean Up tool is introduced for removing objects from images, along with improved search capabilities and the ability to generate Memories through text prompts.
To enable Apple Intelligence, users can go to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Join the Apple Intelligence waitlist. Joining the public beta programs is simple through beta.apple.com.
Stay tuned for more Apple Intelligence features set to be released later this year.
