The recent release of Vision Pro from Apple unveiled some captivating insights into its typically secretive development process. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Tim Cook discussed the challenges involved in bringing the company’s first headset to fruition, revealing that the early version of the device was referred to as “the monster” by Apple’s CEO.
Reports of a foldable iPhone have also encountered setbacks related to durability and crease issues, causing Apple to shift its focus to a folding iPad. However, a recent report from The Information suggests that Apple may be revisiting the foldable iPhone after facing delays.
The Vanity Fair profile hinted at the existence of these projects, stating,
[Cook] strolls past restricted rooms where foldable iPhones and MacBooks with retractable keyboards or transparent televisions were dreamed up. Where these devices, almost all of which will never leave this building, are stored in locked Pelican cases inside locked cupboards.
While Apple has been known to abandon projects that do not meet its standards, occasional exceptions like AirPower are not publicly announced. The company has been considering foldable devices since 2018, and the foldable market has matured, with other manufacturers like Samsung, Huawei, Oppo/OnePlus, Motorola (Lenovo), and Google entering the foldables space.
