Apple has unveiled new MacBook Air models featuring 13-inch and 15-inch screen sizes powered by the latest M3 chip. The 13-inch variant starts at $1,099 (a $100 reduction from the M2 model) while the 15-inch model starts at $1,299. Preorders are currently open in the U.S. with general availability scheduled for March 8.
Apple had previously debuted the M2 MacBook Air in 2022 and expanded the lineup with a 15-inch model last year.
Both models promise up to 18 hours of battery life, a 1080p webcam, upgraded Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, two Thunderbolt ports, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. They also support two external displays with the lid closed.
The M3 chip, introduced last year, features an 8-core CPU and up to a 10-core GPU. The new MacBook Air devices also boast a three-mic array for enhanced voice clarity during calls.
Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, expressed excitement about the new models: “MacBook Air is our most popular and beloved Mac, and today it gets even better with the M3 chip and new capabilities.”
Both models are available in midnight, starlight, silver, and space-gray color options.
Apple’s announcement of the new MacBook Air models coincided with the European Union imposing a €1.84 billion fine on Apple for breaching antitrust regulations in the music streaming market.
