According to reports, Nvidia and Apple are currently in discussions to invest in OpenAI’s upcoming fundraising round, potentially valuing the ChatGPT creator at $100 billion.
Sources cited by the New York Times indicate that Thrive Capital, an early investor in OpenAI, would lead the deal if it materializes. Nvidia’s involvement was first reported by Bloomberg, while The WSJ disclosed Apple’s interest. Microsoft, already holding a 49% stake in OpenAI, might also join in.
OpenAI is in need of financing, as its reported annual revenue exceeded $3.4 billion earlier this year, but it is projected to incur a loss of $5 billion by the end of the year due to its expansions in AI training and staffing efforts.
Notably, OpenAI has strong connections with both Nvidia and Apple. It heavily relies on Nvidia GPUs for running and training its generative AI models, and Apple recently agreed to incorporate ChatGPT into iOS as part of its upcoming AI features suite known as Apple Intelligence.
