Anysphere, a burgeoning startup founded two years ago, has introduced Cursor, an AI-powered coding assistant. The company recently secured over $60 million in Series A funding, reaching a post-money valuation of $400 million, according to reliable sources familiar with the transaction as reported by TechCrunch.
The financing round was co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and Thrive Capital, with participation from Patrick Collison, the co-founder and CEO of Stripe.
Despite multiple requests, Anysphere, a16z, and Collison did not provide comments, while Thrive declined to comment on the matter.
Founded by Michael Truell, Sualeh Asif, Arvid Lunnemark, and Aman Sanger during their time at MIT, Anysphere saw early support from Neo Scholars, an esteemed mentorship program in technical fields. The company also received previous funding from OpenAI Startup Fund and notable angel investors.
Anysphere operates in a competitive landscape alongside other AI coding copilot startups such as Cognition, Poolside, Magic, and Augment.
Given the success of platforms like GitHub Copilot, interest from investors in AI-enabled coding tools has surged. With Microsoft’s CEO highlighting the revenue potential, the sector continues to attract significant attention and funding.
Anysphere, with its growing revenue and user base, is positioned well in this dynamic market, reported a source familiar with the company.
An article in Business Insider from July previously indicated that Anysphere was aiming for a $400 million valuation as part of its fundraising efforts.
