British games company Antstream has recently laid off a number of employees working on its retro platform game Antstream Arcade.
Former PR and communications manager Diane Hutchinson, and UI designer Robyn Jamieson have both shared news of their job losses on LinkedIn and are seeking new opportunities.
In a statement to Gamesindustry.biz, Antstream mentioned that the games industry is going through a challenging period and the layoffs were due to a shift in focus internally.
Assistance for Affected Employees
“This was a difficult decision,” the statement read. “We are committed to supporting those impacted during this process, while ensuring that Antstream Arcade continues to provide a top-notch experience for our players.”
Established by Steve Cottam in 2013, Antstream Arcade is a cloud-based gaming service featuring classic console titles from NES, Atari 2600, and original PlayStation.
With funding from Tencent and Atari, the platform is accessible on PCs, Android devices, and various smart TVs. It was also the first third-party cloud service to launch on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S in July 2023.
Antstream’s recent layoffs come after the recent workforce reductions at Nexon America as part of the company’s reorganization.
