After 16 weeks of hard work, Anthropic’s AI app Claude has reached a significant milestone by exceeding $1 million in gross mobile app revenue on both iOS and Android platforms. The latest data from the app intelligence firm Appfigures reveals that nearly half of this revenue came from users in the United States.
Despite this achievement, Claude still lags behind its top competitor, ChatGPT, which holds the top position in overall downloads and ranks 26th in revenue in the U.S. on iOS. Claude currently stands at 95th in the Productivity category by downloads and 68th in revenue within that category.
Initial reception of Claude’s mobile app was lukewarm, with 157,000 global downloads in its first week of launch. In contrast, ChatGPT garnered 480,000 installs within the first five days of its iOS debut in the U.S. Claude’s highest ranking in the U.S. was at No. 55 on the top free iPhone app charts shortly after its iOS launch, as reported by Appfigures.
Despite these challenges, Claude managed to reach the $1 million revenue mark faster than other AI app competitors. While it trails behind ChatGPT, which achieved this milestone in three weeks, Claude outperformed Microsoft’s CoPilot and Perplexity, which took 19 and 22 weeks, respectively, to reach the same revenue mark.
The U.S. represents the largest market for Claude in terms of downloads, accounting for 32.5%, followed by India (9.6%), Japan (6.8%), the U.K. (5.1%), and Germany (3.2%). Together, these top five markets contribute to 57.2% of Claude’s mobile app installations.
Similarly, the U.S. leads in revenue generation for Claude on mobile, with a 48.4% share. Japan (6.7%), Germany (4.3%), the U.K. (4.3%), and South Korea (2.8%) follow, making up a combined 66.8% share.
Looking ahead, Claude may face ongoing challenges in the mobile consumer market, especially with the upcoming launch of Apple Intelligence, which will provide Siri users direct access to ChatGPT through their iPhones.
