Mortal Kombat 1 is gearing up to introduce animalities back to the franchise in a new free update, bringing a wild twist after 29 years.
The announcement was made at San Diego Comic-Con during the unveiling of the highly anticipated Khaos Reigns expansion.
Animalities, first seen in 1995’s Mortal Kombat 3, are similar to fatalities but involve characters morphing into animals to unleash carnage on their opponents. The trailer showcases a hippo, gorilla, and dinosaur skeleton in action.
The transformations for some characters are intuitive, while others bring new surprises. Every playable character, including DLC additions, will receive an animality. Fans can speculate on what Homelander’s animality might be, with the update set to release alongside Khaos Reigns on September 24 across all platforms.
Khaos Reigns is a major second-year story update for Mortal Kombat 1, introducing new characters to battle Titan Havik from an alternate timeline. Noob Saibot, Cyrax, and Sektor are among the new characters, each with revamped backgrounds.
Joining the roster in the next Kombat Pack DLC are Ghostface from Scream, Conan the Barbarian, and the T-1000 from Terminator 2. Excitement mounts for the possibility of unique animalities for these new additions.
The Khaos Reigns expansion is currently available for preorder on consoles and PC, offering the previous Kombat Pack with additional DLC characters and skins from previous games.
