Amazon announced Thursday the launch of its new app for Amazon One, a contactless palm recognition service that allows customers to make purchases by hovering their palm over a device. This service is available at over 500 Whole Foods Market stores, Amazon stores, and 150+ third-party locations.
Users can now download the Amazon One app for iOS or Android, take a photo of their palm at home, create an online profile, add a payment method, and start using their palm for payments, entry, age verification, and loyalty rewards at various establishments.
All palm images captured by the app are encrypted and stored securely in the Amazon One domain on the AWS cloud. They cannot be saved or downloaded to a mobile device.
Amazon reports that Amazon One has been used over 8 million times and has expanded the technology for enterprise identity verification purposes, allowing companies to authenticate employees entering their premises.
