Amazon Music is now testing Maestro, an AI playlist generator that allows U.S. customers on both iOS and Android to create playlists using spoken or written prompts, including emojis.
Users can incorporate activities, sounds, emotions, or choose from prompt suggestions to generate an AI-generated playlist matching their input. The technology behind Maestro is currently in beta, with Amazon proactively blocking offensive language and inappropriate prompts.
While Spotify tests its AI generator in the U.K. and Australia, Maestro is currently available to a subset of free Amazon Music users, Prime members, and Unlimited Amazon Music subscribers in the U.S. Those who upgrade get additional functionality like instant playlist listening and saving for later.
Users can access Maestro by updating the Amazon Music mobile app and selecting Maestro on their home screen or by tapping the plus sign to create a new playlist. They can talk or write playlist prompts, then start streaming the AI-generated playlist, save it, and share with friends.
Amazon offers various playlist prompt suggestions, showcasing the fun and creative aspect of this new experience. The company plans to expand Maestro to more customers gradually.
