Airtable has announced the acquisition of Dopt, a startup specializing in assisting other startups in creating engaging product onboarding experiences for new users.
Dopt recently introduced AI-based assistance tools that caught Airtable’s attention, leading to the acquisition which was finalized on July 15th. Following the acquisition, Dopt will cease its services as the team transitions to join Airtable’s AI group.
Airtable’s co-founder and CEO, Howie Liu, shared that this acquisition is in line with the company’s AI strategy. After a period of hyper-growth during the early days of the pandemic, Airtable underwent a strategic shift, focusing on key priorities and big bets for the future.
According to Liu, overcoming resource constraints fosters creativity and forces companies to be innovative in resource allocation. Airtable’s latest focus on AI is evident with the recent release of Airtable Cobuilder, streamlining app development through a chat interface.
The Dopt acquisition emphasizes talent acquisition for Airtable. The Dopt team’s expertise in intuitive onboarding experiences across multiple companies will enhance Airtable’s AI capabilities and user experience development.
While the acquisition price remains undisclosed, Dopt had previously raised a $5.1 million seed round in 2022, with support from investors like Unusual Ventures and Designer Fund.
