Accel stands out as one of the top venture firms in India, boasting nearly two dozen Indian unicorn startups and a track record of success. Despite this, the partners leading the firm’s early-stage accelerator program, called Atoms, reflect on their experiences and strive to improve their strategies for success.
In an interview, Prayank Swaroop, a partner at Accel, emphasized the belief that all VC firms eventually appear the same to founders, focusing primarily on providing funding. This has led to a shift in the industry towards making early-stage investments to improve returns.
Accel has spent years refining its early-stage accelerator program, Atoms, to find the right approach. The firm has moved away from traditional practices and focuses on a unique path tailored for success.
Atoms’ third cohort comprises eight startups operating in the AI and Industry 5.0 sectors. Accel invests up to $500,000 in each startup’s pre-seed round and provides strategic guidance and networking opportunities.
Spintly is an IoT platform simplifying access control for buildings. Asets offers an AI-powered Integrated Design Suite for engineering projects. Tune AI provides GenAI solutions for enterprises, while Skoob revolutionizes the way readers interact with books. Arivihan offers an AI-based learning platform for students, and Meritic automates financial planning and analysis.

Accel selected AI and Industry 5.0 as key themes for Atoms due to their potential growth in the upcoming decade. Industry 5.0, in particular, is gaining traction as outdated plants modernize, creating opportunities for startups to enhance efficiencies and compete with consulting firms.
With over 800 startup applicants for Atoms 3.0, the program attracted a significant number of AI startups addressing HR and marketing challenges. Accel aims to stand out in a crowded market by seeking innovative solutions beyond the mainstream trends.
Pallavi Chakravorty, CEO of Meritic, praised the strong founder community and collaborative atmosphere at Accel LaunchPad. The program offers valuable resources and networking opportunities for startups to thrive and succeed.
