Arm has introduced its new Accuracy Super Resolution (ASR) technology, aimed at enhancing GPU performance on mobile devices. This ASR technology is a temporal upscaler based on AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 (FSR2), allowing developers to easily integrate and benefit from improved performance.
Unlike other upscaling technologies like FSR and DLSS, Arm’s ASR focuses on power savings by reducing GPU usage, which is critical for mobile devices to avoid thermal throttling and maintain stable performance.
Peter Hodges, Arm’s Director for Ecosystem Strategy, emphasized ASR’s ability to maintain high-quality visuals while reducing thermal throttling, resulting in a more consistent gaming experience and longer device engagement. ASR is optimized for devices with lower memory bandwidth, such as mobile GPUs with integrated graphics, and claims to use fewer GPU resources compared to FSR2, leading to better frame rates on Arm devices.
Through tests, Arm demonstrated that ASR can significantly improve frame rates and reduce power consumption on mobile devices, addressing key concerns for mobile gamers.

Once the ASR specification is released, it will be up to OS makers and game developers to adopt it. Companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Qualcomm are exploring different upscaling technologies, but it remains to be seen if ASR will become a new standard in mobile graphics upscaling.
