While wearables are excellent for tracking steps and heart rate, they often fall short when it comes to counting calories and logging meals. However, a recent APK teardown from Android Authority suggests that this may change with the Oura Ring.
The beta version of the Oura app (version 5.3.4 beta 2) indicates that a new feature will allow users to easily track meals. By simply taking a picture of your meal, the built-in AI will analyze the items, including calorie count and nutritional balance. For those who prefer manual logging, that option will also be available.
The APK teardown also reveals that the meal tracking functionality will consider how meals and mealtimes impact your circadian rhythm, providing valuable insights into your body’s response to food in terms of blood sugar, energy levels, and internal clock. Screenshots of the AI-assisted meal logging and circadian rhythm measuring are included in the teardown.
These new features are part of a series of updates Oura plans to introduce. The company is enhancing heart health tracking by measuring cardiovascular age against chronological age and evaluating cardio capacity during exercise. With competitors like the Samsung Galaxy Ring and RingConn Gen 2 offering attractive features, Oura is striving to stay competitive.
While details about the release of the Oura Ring 4 remain scarce, the meal tracking feature is expected to be available soon, as it is already present in the app according to Android Authority.
