Immerse yourself in the vibrant music scene of San Francisco’s Mission district with the innovative “Bop Spotter” project. Created by Riley Walz, this solar-powered box mounted on a street pole in an undisclosed location runs the song identifying service Shazam 24/7. The Bop Spotter detects great songs, or “bops,” captures their names, and uploads them to a website for global access to the sounds of the Mission.
Discover the eclectic tastes of Mission residents as the Bop Spotter logs their music choices. From Taylor Swift’s “Wildest Dreams” to Yo Gotti’s “Act Right” and Aventura’s “Cuando Volveras,” the Bop Spotter captures it all.
In an interview with 404 Media, Walz shared that the Bop Spotter was a weekend project costing only $100. His personal favorite among the captured songs is “Just the Two of Us” by Bill Withers and Grover Washington, played in the Mission at 3 AM on a Sunday.
