Kreation Verse, a new Japanese studio founded in 2021 and led by CEO Tomoya Ogawa and game director Karin, made its debut with the announcement of its first game, TAT Rumble, during GDC last month. This free-to-play mobile game revolves around collecting, trading, and battling with character cards in an anime-style setting based on a martial arts competition known as the “Twelve Anonymous Tournament.” The 2D characters in the game are drawn and animated by the renowned artist Tatsuro Iwamoto, known for his work on Capcom’s Ace Attorney series.
Tomoya Ogawa, speaking during GDC in San Francisco, shared the vision behind Kreation Verse, stating, “Our goal is to serve as a platform for Japanese creators to reach a global audience. While anime and Japanese games are growing in popularity worldwide, there remains a significant gap between Japanese IP holders and the global market due to language and cultural barriers. Our initial focus is on our original titles, but we aim to eventually become a publisher facilitating the entry of companies into the global market. We see the potential of NFTs as a new avenue for digital IP business and services. Currently, our emphasis is on NFT gaming to enhance the value of our creators’ IPs. This is the overarching concept we are working towards!”
With a background in management in the gaming industry, particularly through his work at mobile games studio Akatsuki, Ogawa-san has significant experience. He collaborated with Karin in developing and operating the Dragonball Z mobile game.
The upcoming TAT Rumble game features tradable NFT character cards. Ogawa-san explains, “We began building our NFT collection a year and a half ago with Tatsuro Iwamoto. These characters, created by Tatsuro, are the foundation of our collectible art game which combines strategic fighting mechanics with slot machine elements.”
Tomoya Ogawa’s expertise from his work on Dragonball Z brings an understanding of compelling gameplay centered around card decks to TAT Rumble. The game incorporates gacha mechanics for daily rewards, collectible art elements, and the innovative Martial Byte technology, which integrates slot spins for move execution, blending skill and luck seamlessly. Players do not need to set up a wallet or deal with crypto beforehand.
Exploring the Mobile and NFT Arena
Ogawa-san elaborates on the game’s design, stating, “This is primarily a web2 free-to-play mobile game. Players can convert their characters into NFTs for additional power, creating an additional gameplay loop. This cycle includes character development, battles, NFT conversion, and ownership. Users can own, export, and sell their NFTs on platforms like OpenSea.”
“Players can enjoy the mobile game for free, and purchases can accelerate progress. There is also a chance for free NFT acquisition. Our belief is that NFTs, as tradable assets, will enhance user engagement and lifetime value. We are starting with the web2 mobile game before integrating NFT elements,” he adds.
