Activision Blizzard, along with its associated studios, has taken a firm stance against ‘boosting behavior’ on Modern Warfare 3’s Ranked Play platform. Recently, the company’s anti-cheat team, Team RICOCHET, conducted a sweep targeting ‘accounts that engaged in any form of boosting behavior.’ This preemptive action was taken before the launch of season three of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone.
While cheating is often the main concern in Call of Duty’s ecosystem, boosting also poses a threat to the competitive integrity of the game.
Cracking Down on Boosting
Team RICOCHET from Activision issued a statement on Twitter, stating:
‘Ranked Play progression boosting is against the Call of Duty Security and Enforcement Policy. Prior to Season 3 launch, we have taken action against all identified accounts involved in boosting behavior in our competitive environment across Ranked Play modes for Modern Warfare III multiplayer and Call of Duty: Warzone.
The accounts found engaging in boosting will have their SR progression reset as an initial penalty while we investigate further potential consequences. We have also prioritized the integrity of our Ranked Play leaderboards by removing the flagged accounts.
Maintaining a fair and competitive environment for all players is a top priority for us. We will continue monitoring leaderboards for any new instances of boosting and periodically reset SR on detected accounts to uphold fair gameplay.’
Following this announcement, players raised concerns about the ‘shadowban issue’ affecting innocent users. This issue results in legitimate players being shadowbanned without cause, limiting their matchmaking opportunities in Warzone and Modern Warfare 3.
While this action may not eliminate all cheating problems in Call of Duty, it marks a positive step towards maintaining fairness in the game.
