Acquiring Delaware-based mobile studio, Celebrity Games, marks a significant milestone for the indie game development platform VoxPop Games. This strategic merger follows VoxPop’s recent launch of a career readiness program designed to assist university students in securing job opportunities within the gaming industry.
Beyond traditional STEM majors, VoxPop’s initiative actively encourages students from diverse academic backgrounds who harbor ambitions of entering the gaming sector. Partner universities like Marist College, Stony Brook University, and Bradley University play pivotal roles in supporting and nurturing program participants.
Formerly known for crafting mobile apps featuring notable figures from the entertainment world such as Derrick Lewis, Ric Flair, and Riff Raff, Celebrity Games now operates under VoxPop’s ownership. These collaborations involved celebrities not only lending their likeness to the games but also providing exclusive rewards for players, such as private livestreams and autographed merchandise.
Embracing Celebrity Cameos in Games
According to VoxPop CEO, Charles Yu, celebrity cameos have become a staple in AAA gaming, citing examples like Keanu Reeves in Cyberpunk and Nicki Minaj in Call of Duty. While smaller studios may shy away from this concept due to budget limitations or unfamiliarity with talent negotiation, VoxPop sees tremendous potential in facilitating indie game developers in securing appropriate celebrity integrations for their projects.
Amidst the launching of their maiden title, Outer Terror, on consoles this month, alongside the establishment of their new initiative and collaboration with Celebrity Games, VoxPop is determined to establish itself as a key player in the indie publishing landscape, with a special emphasis on fostering developer talent.
“Moreover, our new celebrity acquaintances can now submit their game concepts through our platform and enlist their fans’ aid in bringing their game ideas to life!” Yu remarked.
