FarBridge Inc announced today a partnership with Gearbox Entertainment to launch Homeworld: Vast Reaches, the first virtual reality-based installment in the Homeworld series. Vast Reaches brings Homeworld’s strategic space battles to life in immersive VR environments, with players assuming the role of the new Fleet Command, Tyrra Soban. The game will debut on Meta Quest 2 and 3 later this year.
Vast Reaches is situated between the narratives of Homeworld and Homeworld 2. The game maintains the core strategic combat elements of the main titles, allowing Fleet Commanders to reposition and maneuver their ships from any perspective. Tyrra teams up with Karan S’jet, the Fleet Command from the original titles, to confront a new enigmatic adversary known as the Radaa.
In a statement, Richard Rouse III, FarBridge’s studio creative director, expressed, “We’ve crafted a new experience that will appeal to both Homeworld enthusiasts and strategy game aficionados. It’s been a privilege to transform the spectacular space battles and distinct characters of Homeworld into a whole new virtual and mixed reality playground.”
Homeworld fans have more to look forward to this year with Blackbird Interactive developing Homeworld 3, the latest mainline entry in the series. This upcoming release is a traditional strategy game set to launch on PC. Originally crowdfunded through Fig before Gearbox Entertainment’s acquisition by Embracer Group, Homeworld 3, after facing delays, is now scheduled for release on May 13 following Gearbox’s recent acquisition by Take-Two Interactive.
