Capcom announced today that its recently launched RPG, Dragon’s Dogma 2, has sold 2.5 million copies within two weeks of launch. The cumulative sales of the Dragon’s Dogma series, including the original and the Dark Arisen re-release, have now surpassed 10 million units since the first game launched in 2012.
Dragon’s Dogma sold one million copies within a month of launch, indicating that the sequel has surpassed the original in terms of launch sales. Capcom credits this success to an aggressive pre-launch marketing campaign that targeted both existing fans and newcomers.
In a Q&A in its FY23 Q3 report, Capcom stated, “we consider [Dragon’s Dogma 2] to be in the million-selling class.”
Dragon’s Dogma 2 faced challenges at launch, including previously undisclosed microtransactions that negatively impacted the game’s reputation among some gamers. Players also reported performance issues across multiple platforms. However, Capcom reassured players in a post on Twitter that updates for the game will continue to be rolled out.
