A16z has announced the opening of applications for the latest cohort of the Speedrun tech and games accelerator, marking the third iteration of the $75 million accelerator program.
The A16z Games Speedrun accelerator will now be based in Los Angeles, with the upcoming SR003 intake set to go through a 12-week intensive training program for game and tech entrepreneurs leading up to a Demo Day during SF Tech Week.
With a commitment to invest up to $75 million in pre-seed startups shaping the future of the games industry, A16z Games is increasing its investment to $750,000 for each selected Speedrun company.
In a statement, Josh Lu, investing partner for A16z Games, emphasized the importance of the intersection between tech and games and highlighted the support provided by the SPEEDRUN program in helping founders navigate the challenges of launching a game startup.

SR002 featured a diverse group of early-stage companies disrupting the Tech x Games industry, covering verticals such as infrastructure, games studios, consumer apps/platforms, and AI.
- 43% infrastructure plus tools, with alums from top tech companies such as Discord, Zynga, Google, Apple, Square, Palantir, Magic Leap, and Xsolla.
- 35% games studios, founded by newcomers and veterans from companies like Rocket League, Blizzard, Epic Games, Jam City, King, and Supercell.
- 25% consumer apps/platforms, led by veterans from companies like Magic Leap, Crunchyroll, Dapper Labs, Canva, and Snap.
- 49% AI, led by PhDs from top institutions such as Stanford, MIT, and Oxford.
With a highly selective process, the Speedrun program has seen 80% of SR001 participants securing funding from investors post-graduation during Demo Day.
