Attending the Game Developers Conference in 2024 was a transformative experience for me, as someone with a decade-long history in the games industry. The vibrancy of the event, coupled with interactions with industry luminaries and the immersive environment, left a lasting impact. What struck me the most was the sheer passion and enthusiasm that everyone exuded towards the industry.
Beyond the technical aspects, there was a prevalent theme of using games as a medium for social change, evident in the discussions and awards ceremonies. The creators of Venba, the Indie Game Award winner, shared insights on indie game opportunities, emphasizing the accessibility of game development compared to other creative fields.
The diversity of attendees, ranging from executives to developers, provided a rich tapestry of perspectives and stories. While I found some aspects of the event, like the sprawling layout, a bit overwhelming, the overall experience was deeply rewarding.
Back in personal pursuits, engaging with new game releases like Rise of the Ronin and Dragon’s Dogma 2 has been a delightful challenge. Amidst a sea of upcoming releases, including Tales of Kenzera: Zau, carving out time for gaming has become a balancing act.
