Last November, Apple delighted customers by confirming that RCS would be coming to the iPhone in 2024. This was a much-anticipated feature that both iPhone and Android users had been eagerly awaiting. However, Apple did not specify the exact timeline for the rollout of RCS in 2024. Thanks to Google, we now have a clearer idea of when RCS will be available on the iPhone.
According to a recent update on the Android website, as reported by 9to5Google, there is a dedicated page for Google Messages that mentions Apple’s adoption of RCS in the fall of 2024. This indicates a significant improvement in messaging experience for all users.
While Apple initially mentioned that RCS support would arrive “later next year,” Google’s statement narrows down the release window to fall 2024. This suggests that RCS could be expected on the iPhone in September, October, or November.
RCS is expected to be integrated into Apple’s upcoming iOS 18 update, which is likely to be announced during WWDC 2024 in June. The public release may coincide with the launch of the iPhone 16 in September. Even if there is a slight delay, it is anticipated that RCS will be available in a subsequent iOS 18.x update.
With the introduction of RCS, texting between iPhone and Android users will be greatly enhanced, resembling the seamless experience of iMessage conversations. New features such as typing indicators, read receipts, high-resolution photo sharing, and improved group chats will be part of the RCS integration. The wait until fall to experience these improvements may seem long, but the wait is finally nearing its end.
