Take-Two has announced the acquisition of Gearbox, the developer behind Borderlands, for $460 million, significantly less than the previous acquisition by Embracer in 2021.
In recent times, Embracer has been divesting studios after an acquisition spree, including the recent sale of Saber Interactive.
Having published games from Gearbox before, such as the Borderlands franchise, Take-Two expects the acquisition to be completed in the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2025.
Chairman and CEO of Take-Two, Strauss Zelnick, expressed excitement about the acquisition, stating that it strengthens their creative talent and portfolio, promising increased long-term growth opportunities.
