Dimensional Ink Games announced that DC Universe Online (DCUO) is now available as a native client for PlayStation 5.
This means players on this platform will experience powerful performance improvements and native PS5 features, according to Dimensional Ink’s new lead producer Kenn “Kendricke” White.
The game was originally published as a free-to-play massively multiplayer online game in 2011, co-published by Daybreak Game Company and WB Games.
White mentioned that his first few months running the Dimensional Ink Games studio were focused on team and priority ramp-up, as well as getting back into the game.
“I know this update came a bit later than expected. First, I want to emphasize that our team is growing,” White said. “We’ve brought on a new creative director, Al Rivera, and art director, Scot Boyd. We’re making significant investments in the game’s future, the people who are working on this beloved project, and in DCUO’s overall growth. To put it simply, this is a great time to be a DCUO player.”
He expressed gratitude for the team’s commitment, feedback, and patience, emphasizing the investments being made back into the community. The company will issue at least three letters from the team each year.
Regarding the native client on the PS5, White mentioned, “This means you’ll be able to experience your favorite DC MMO on the latest-gen hardware, which comes with powerful performance improvements and PS5 native features to complement it along the way.”
The game celebrated its 13th Anniversary with the return of the Attack of the Anti-Monitor event, offering new rewards, free gifts, and a sweepstakes for a chance to win a 13th Anniversary T-shirt. Special events were also held, with post-launch styles for Episode 46: Justice League Dark Cursed coming soon.
What’s next for 2024
Entering the second quarter of the year, the team is focused on Episode 47, where Brainiac has returned to launch an attack on Earth’s symbols of hope and resistance. The Justice League and Lex Luthor’s Secret Society must unite to defeat Brainiac’s malevolent plan.
