Revolutionizing online shopping, a new app from the startup Cherry introduces an AI assistant that enables users to effortlessly discover products across the internet by simply uploading a screenshot or image. Cherry streamlines product discovery, helping users find items they stumble upon while browsing social media or in real life.
Founded by Ryan Kim, a seasoned software engineer with two decades of experience in the e-commerce landscape, Cherry aims to simplify the arduous process of finding and comparing products online. Kim’s personal frustration with the time-consuming task inspired the creation of the tool to facilitate product discovery and comparison for users.
Imagine finding a dress in a physical store but finding it too expensive. With Cherry, users can snap a picture and easily find a similar product online at a more affordable price. Similarly, if you see an intriguing gadget while scrolling through TikTok, a quick screenshot can lead you to that item through Cherry.
Utilizing cutting-edge AI technology, Cherry taps into the capabilities of Google and Bing (powered by OpenAI) to scrape data directly onto the user’s device.
While services like Google Lens offer similar image-based search capabilities, Cherry stands out by allowing users to categorize results by price, bookmark products, track image search history, and share results with friends or on social media. The platform is also developing a rewards points system for users to earn and redeem exclusive deals from brands.
Kim highlights Cherry’s focus on enhancing the shopping experience specifically, offering results with the same speed and accuracy as Google, while incorporating additional lenses like Bing Visual Search for a wider range of search results.
With approximately 5,000 users in its early user acquisition phase, Cherry targets young users to help them discover top products that align with their preferences and budgets. Looking ahead, the company aims to expand its user base, collaborate with online retailers, and introduce personalized shopping recommendations to meticulously select the best products for users – hence the term “cherry-pick.”
Available on iOS and Android, Cherry is set to transform the way users shop online.
