Google is introducing a “Personal AI” to its product lineup, including Fitbit, utilizing generative AI technology developed specifically for healthcare. Fitbit Labs will provide users with experimental features later this year as part of a trial phase.
At Google’s recent event, The Check Up, the company aims to empower users with a better understanding of the wellness data collected by smartwatches and smartphones’ sensors. An AI tool in the Fitbit app will analyze this data and present it in user-friendly formats like charts.
In addition to insights on workout and lifestyle routines, the AI will provide actionable advice to users. Google has incorporated a chatbot feature that allows users to interact with an AI assistant for more detailed insights on their health data.
For instance, users can inquire about correlations between their sleep patterns and daily activity metrics. The AI will analyze the data and offer insights such as how better sleep is associated with increased activity based on daily active minutes.
Future enhancements will include linking additional biomarkers such as heart rate activity, exercise intensity, heart rate variation, and more. These features will initially be available to a select group of Android users signed up for Fitbit Labs testing.
Google is also working on a Personal Health Large Language Model to integrate health-focused AI features into its products. The goal is to create an “on-demand personal coach” providing valuable insights and guidance for users.
These AI-driven health experiences will soon be accessible through Pixel phones, Fitbit and Pixel Watch wearables, Pixel smartphones, and Pixel earbuds. However, Google emphasizes that these tools are not intended for diagnosing or treating medical conditions but to support users in achieving their fitness goals through informed guidance from AI.
