Founded in 2013 by Raf Mertens, CrazyGames has established itself as a prominent player in the gaming industry. With a collection of over 7,000 games spanning various genres, the Belgium-based platform continues to captivate gamers worldwide.
We are excited to announce the participation of CrazyGames VP of Marketing & Partnerships, Rafael Morgan, as one of the distinguished speakers at Pocket Gamer Connects San Francisco later this month. Morgan will be sharing his invaluable insights on the gaming space during the event scheduled for March 18th to 19th.
The event will feature a lineup of engaging sessions, roundtables for industry professionals to discuss pressing topics, networking opportunities including Publisher SpeedMatch and Investor Connector, as well as popular segments like the Journalist Bar and the Very Big Indie Pitch.
Morgan’s involvement in the panel session titled ‘Supercharge your Revenue: Exploring Alternative Monetisation Strategies’ will shed light on innovative approaches to revenue generation in the gaming industry. Prior to the event, we sat down with Morgan to gather his insights on the current landscape of the games industry.
PocketGamer.biz: Could you tell us about how you got started in games and your career so far?
Rafael Morgan: In 1992, my gaming journey began with a Super Nintendo, sparking a lifelong passion for gaming. Following studies in marketing and advertising in São Paulo, Brazil, I delved into the gaming sector during the early days of mobile gaming. After exploring other interests briefly, I returned to gaming and eventually landed in business development roles within the gaming industry, leading me to my current role at CrazyGames.
Any particular favorite moments or highlights you’d like to share?
One standout moment for me has been the transformative role CrazyGames has played in the web gaming landscape. Collaborating with renowned mobile publishers, we expanded our game catalog and showcased the potential of web gaming as a competitive and innovative space. Witnessing the positive response from the gaming community and industry has been a rewarding highlight of my career.
What sets mobile gaming apart, and why is it essential to you right now?
Mobile gaming’s accessibility and ability to integrate seamlessly into players’ daily lives make it a unique and dynamic platform. While we value the mobile gaming scene, we recognize the benefits of incorporating web gaming to offer players a diverse gaming experience across different platforms.
How have you observed the evolution of app monetization, and where do you see it heading?
App monetization has progressed from traditional paid downloads to more sophisticated models such as in-app purchases and subscriptions. The future of monetization lies in personalization, aligning strategies with user preferences, and exploring innovative models to enhance user satisfaction while maintaining profitability.
What common mistakes do game developers still make, and how can they maximize profitability while keeping players satisfied?
One common misstep is prioritizing monetization over user experience, leading to player dissatisfaction. Developers should focus on creating engaging content, nurturing a community, and implementing fair monetization practices to deliver value to players while maximizing profitability. A player-centric approach, data analytics, and feedback-driven iteration are key to success.
What’s a valuable ‘trick’ that many overlook, and what do you believe contributes to success?
Community engagement is often underestimated but can significantly impact growth, retention, and feedback. Building a vibrant community around your game can turn players into advocates. Crafting games with emotional resonance and meaningful experiences is crucial for long-term success.
Regarding your session at PGC San Francisco, what are your objectives for the show?
I am enthusiastic about participating in the panel discussion at PGC San Francisco, focusing on innovative monetization strategies in the mobile and web gaming sphere. By exploring new revenue avenues and creating a more inclusive ecosystem for developers, we aim to inspire creativity and collaboration within the industry. I look forward to sharing insights and connecting with fellow gaming enthusiasts at the event.
