The NYT Games app has unveiled a new redesign aimed at enhancing user experience, making it easier for users to discover games and track their progress. This redesign follows the app’s rebranding from “NYT Crosswords” to “NYT Games” to encompass its expanding collection of games. Featuring new game card designs and improved navigation, the redesign reflects the company’s commitment to evolving its gaming hub.
The redesign represents a shift from a crossword-centric app to a comprehensive hub for all games. NYT Games product design director Jennifer Scheerer explained that as the app expanded to include various games, the previous design became limiting. The updated version now caters to both new and existing players with its modern aesthetics and user-friendly interface.
The revamped game cards not only enhance discovery but also track user progress, providing a seamless experience for players. With all games, archives, and packs consolidated in one place, navigation has become more straightforward. Simplifying the homepage with tabs for “Games,” “Stats,” and “Leaderboard” improves usability and allows for future expansion.
Personalized greetings add a warm touch to the app, adapting to user behavior throughout the day. Looking ahead, the Games team plans to continue gathering feedback to further enhance the gaming hub. The redesign marks the beginning of ongoing improvements to provide an engaging and functional platform for all players.
