In most cases, I prefer to work on a Windows machine, but when I switch to my Mac mini, one aspect of the setup that I really enjoy is the Magic Trackpad 2. This peripheral accessory offers a unique experience that is missing in the Windows ecosystem.
The Magic Trackpad 2 – A Touch of Magic
The Magic Trackpad 2 offers unique gestures and comfort compared to using a traditional mouse. Its touch surface can sense different levels of pressure, allowing for precise interactions and customizable gestures in macOS settings.
Whether it’s pinch-to-zoom, pinch-to-rotate, or swipe gestures, the Magic Trackpad 2 enhances productivity and ease of use for Mac users.
Windows Laptops Embracing Haptic Trackpads
There is a growing trend of haptic trackpads in the PC space, including Windows laptops like the Surface Laptop Studio and Dell XPS 14. While this is a positive move, there is still a lack of standalone haptic trackpad accessories for desktop use.
Seeking a Windows Equivalent
While the Apple Magic Trackpad 2 can be used with a Windows PC with third-party drivers, the experience is not as seamless as on a Mac. Various attempts have been made by other brands like Logitech, Microsoft, and Brydge, but none offer the same premium feel and functionality as Apple’s trackpad.
Companies like Sensel are leading the way in haptic trackpad technology for Windows laptops, but there is still a gap in the market for a standalone Windows version of the Magic Trackpad 2.
Until then, users like myself will continue to use the Magic Trackpad 2 with Windows PCs and hope for better alternatives in the future.
