Microsoft introduced the ability to run Android apps on Windows 11 in 2021, but this feature is now set to be discontinued on March 5, 2025. The company recently updated its documentation for the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) to announce the end of support. Amazon has also provided guidance regarding the discontinuation of its Amazon App Store on Windows 11.
The exact reason for this change has not been disclosed by Microsoft, leading to speculation that it could be due to lack of usage or licensing issues. Regardless of the reason, all Amazon App Store content using the WSA will no longer be supported after March 5, 2025.
Users who have downloaded apps from the Amazon App Store before March 5, 2024, will still have access to them until March 5, 2025, although some apps may not function properly. While the Amazon App Store on Windows 11 will no longer be available, it will continue to be accessible on other devices like Amazon’s Fire devices and Android tablets.
Microsoft has a history of phasing out Windows features, and while this news may disappoint Windows users who have relied on the WSA, there are alternative options available. One such option is Blue Stacks, which will be supported in 2025. Additionally, users with compatible Android phones can utilize Microsoft’s Phone Link app to stream Android apps to their PC.
