Discussing the business side of things, not just startups, but the type of business that requires a separate room in your house, let’s talk about wipes. Wet wipes are convenient for personal hygiene, but their environmental impact is concerning. While not everyone enjoys dry wiping, bidets and smart toilets are pricey alternatives on the rise.
For some time, the startup Fohm offered a solution: a unique soap that can be applied to toilet paper, transforming it into flushable wet wipes. It may sound unconventional, but with 50,000 satisfied customers, it seems to be effective.
Recently rebranded as Saintly, the company is dedicated to providing an eco-friendly substitute for traditional wet wipes. By introducing a foam-based solution for cleansing, Saintly aims to address the environmental problems caused by non-biodegradable wet wipes. This innovative approach to personal hygiene has not only been skin-friendly but also eco-conscious, preventing tons of plastic waste from polluting waterways.
Following the rebranding, Saintly has opened preorders for its new product to existing customers, announcing the discontinuation of the old product and refills.
“As we embark on this new chapter, we will phase out support for the original Fohm dispenser and refills, focusing on delivering excellence with Saintly,” the company informed its existing customers via email, as seen by TechCrunch. The decision to stop offering refills for an existing product, contradicting their environmental commitment, has not gone unnoticed.
Co-founder Jerry Staub mentioned in an interview with TechCrunch, “Our goal is to continue selling refills for the V1 dispenser for the next 6-12 months for customers who wish to stock up. Subsequently, we will offer discounted upgrades to legacy customers.”
With its new product line, Saintly has made significant advancements, including improved cleansing formulations, a sleeker dispenser design, easier cartridge replacement, and surprising features like a phone holder?
The Saintly Dispenser Kit is available for $99 on subscription or $109 as a one-time purchase, with Refill Packs priced at $36, equating to approximately 8 cents per use. The revamped hardware and brand relaunch will officially take effect on March 22.
