In Final Fantasy 7: Remake, Cloud often found himself alone or with just a couple of companions. In contrast, Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth starts you off with a party of five that expands as you progress through the game.
Similar to its predecessors, only three characters can participate in battles at a time, with one of them acting as the leader. While playing as Cloud is enjoyable, mixing up your party and trying out different combinations can enhance your gameplay experience. Here’s how you can change your party and set your party leader in Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth.
How to change your party and party leader
Changing your party is straightforward: simply select which three characters you want to use in a battle. The party leader is the character you control at the beginning of a battle by default, allowing you to play as your preferred character without having to switch from Cloud every time.
You can make these changes by pausing the game outside of combat and accessing the Combat Settings section. Here, press Square to adjust your party by swapping out a current member for one in reserve.
To change your party leader, press Triangle on this screen and choose one of your three party members to designate as the “Leader.” While you will still navigate the world as Cloud (or other characters as the story dictates), you will take control of the selected leader as soon as a battle begins.
