If you’re about to embark on your Final Fantasy VII Rebirth journey, be prepared for a lengthy adventure. Completing every sidequest, minigame, and Chadley combat battle will keep you in Gaia for at least 100 hours. It’s not an exaggeration; I finished the main story in 73 hours and still had plenty of side content to tackle.
Given the game’s length, it’s important to focus on the best content to progress through the story efficiently. While some minigames can be skipped, there’s one you shouldn’t miss: Queen’s Blood. Not only is it a deep deck-builder, but it also holds a hidden story that makes it the standout minigame in Rebirth.
All Hail the Queen
Introduced early in the Rebirth narrative, Queen’s Blood is an optional card game found throughout the world. It serves as Rebirth‘s equivalent of Gwent, offering players an engaging in-world deck-building experience. While this concept has become common in modern open-world games, Queen’s Blood stands out as the best execution I’ve seen.
Queen’s Blood combines elements of Marvel Snap and Splatoon 3‘s Tableturf Battles. Players take turns placing cards on a grid-based board with three lanes, strategically capturing spaces to play cards. The game requires spatial reasoning and strategic planning to outwit opponents and claim victory.
Queen’s Blood offers a blend of card and puzzle gaming, creating a compelling deck-building experience that evolves as you progress in the game. With added complexities like support abilities and advanced strategies, mastering Queen’s Blood becomes a rewarding challenge as you uncover its secrets and narrative arc.
While Queen’s Blood may seem like optional side content, its captivating storyline and gameplay depth make it a standout feature in Rebirth. It exemplifies the meticulous design approach taken by Square Enix, offering players unexpected depth and engagement in every minigame. It’s a testament to the game’s immersive world and attention to detail.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is now available on PlayStation 5.
