Google’s Gemini chatbot has faced criticism for cultural insensitivities and functionality issues.
The chatbot’s image generator previously depicted people of color in Nazi-era uniforms, and its commentary has been described as absurd, equating Hitler’s record with Elon Musk posting memes.
On Android, Gemini disrupts Google Assistant’s song recognition feature, causing frustration for users, including myself.
Let me share my experience.
I primarily use Gemini on my Samsung Galaxy A53 5G, which runs Niagara Launcher for a minimalist home screen setup. However, I rely on Google Assistant, now Gemini, for various tasks like setting timers and launching apps.
Prior to Gemini, Google Assistant’s song recognition feature was a convenient tool I frequently used to identify music in various environments.
However, with Gemini, the song recognition feature is either non-functional or redirects users to third-party apps like Shazam or YouTube, which is frustrating.
Despite being a minor inconvenience, the lack of song recognition on Gemini is disappointing, considering the premium subscription fee I pay for Google One’s AI Premium Plan.
I have contacted Google regarding this issue, and I will update this post with any responses I receive.
