After experiencing the first suspected DDOS attack during the series between Dplus KIA and DRX, the LCK has once again been disrupted.
T1 vs FOX series brought to a halt following LCK DDoS attack
Technical difficulties emerged on Monday, February 28 during the series between T1 and FearX in the LCK, leading to the postponement of the game after Game 1.
This marks the second instance of such disruptions in the Korean league within a span of two weeks, following the prolonged 6-hour match that occurred last Sunday.
Despite efforts made by the LCK to address the issues, a DDoS attack was confirmed to have taken place once again during Game 1 of the series.
A DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack involves a malicious attempt to disrupt normal web traffic by flooding a targeted server or network with an overwhelming amount of internet traffic, leading to service outages and slowdowns.
This type of attack often results in ping spikes and significant performance issues for players in games like League of Legends. The Korean region has been grappling with this issue, affecting professionals and streamers in recent months and now, extending into the esports realm.
In a public statement, organizers revealed that their efforts to prevent similar incidents were ineffective due to the evolving patterns and methods of the attacks.
Following discussions with the teams, LCK has decided to complete Game 1 despite ongoing pauses, with T1 claiming victory in that match. The remaining games in the series have been rescheduled for a later date. The pre-recorded matches will be broadcast on February 29, with teams playing from their respective facilities.
This marks the second series to be postponed, following the KDF vs BRO series which was scheduled after the DK vs DRX matchup on Sunday.
