WhatsApp has introduced a new “search by date” feature for individual and group chats on Android devices. This feature was previously available on iOS, Mac desktop, and WhatsApp Web.
Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement on his WhatsApp channel, showcasing the feature in a video where he searched for an old chat about Karaoke. Users can now search for chats on specific dates rather than within a date range.
To utilize this feature, users need to navigate to a one-on-one or group chat details by selecting the contact or group name. From there, they can access the search function and the calendar icon for date-specific searches.
Users also have the ability to search through conversations by media type such as links, media, and docs on the conversation detail page.
WhatsApp is exploring additional search-related features as well. In December, WABetaInfo reported that the company is testing chat filters like “All”, “Unread”, “Contacts”, and “Groups”. Recently, they mentioned a new filter called “Favorites” for quick access to starred messages.
WhatsApp also introduced new text formatting options like bulleted lists, numbered lists, block quotes, and inline code for individual and group chats, as well as Channels.
