On Pokémon’s 28th anniversary, known as Pokémon Day, The Pokémon Company announced updates for all five of its active mobile games.
From Pokémon Go to Pokémon Unite to Pokémon Café ReMix, the franchise has explored a variety of genres in its mobile expansion. While some experiments have been more successful than others, all five mobile games are continuing to receive support with new updates.
Each game either has an update available now or on the way, aligning with the celebration of 28 years since the original Red and Green versions premiered on the Game Boy.
Exciting Updates:
Pokémon Go, the most successful mobile game in the franchise, is set to release a tie-in with Pokémon Horizons next week. The anime series debuts on Netflix in the US on March 7, featuring new protagonists and diverging from Ash Ketchum’s storyline. Starting March 5, players can encounter a special Pikachu in the game wearing Cap’s hat from the anime, equipped with Volt Tackle for unique battling abilities. Additionally, players can expect to see the stars of Horizons, Liko and Roy, in their AR photos within the game.
Pokémon Unite is introducing new creatures, Ceruledge and Miraidon, from the Nintendo Switch games Scarlet and Violet. A fun minigame called Miraidon’s Sandwich Challenge offers players a chance to unlock the Violet mascot for free by earning dice through various gameplay activities. The game also features a Prize Machine Event in honor of Pokémon Day, allowing players to win free outfits for their Pokémon.
In Pokémon Café ReMix, players can look forward to recruiting Scarlet’s mascot Koraidon to their café staff. Gimmighoul Coins are also available through completing puzzles, with Gimmighoul being a Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Go. Additionally, Pokémon Sleep is receiving updates with log-in bonuses and the debut of legendary Pokémon Raikou in March, followed by Entei and Suicune.
Anniversary Celebrations:
Pokémon Masters EX, celebrating its 4.5 year anniversary, is releasing Champion Silver and Tyranitar for a limited time through the game’s gacha system. These fan-favorite characters, first featured in Gold and Silver, join other limited releases during the celebration period. The game has generated over $300 million in revenue over its 4.5 years of existence.
Finally, a new mobile game called Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket was announced on Pokémon Day, expanding the franchise’s active mobile game count to six. Set to launch in 2024, this game aims to digitize the popular card game with features for collecting, trading, and battling.
