After securing their first victory of the season with a 2-0 win over Team Vitality in the VCT EMEA Kickoff, Lee Jones caught up with FNC’s head coach, Chris “Elmapuddy” Tebbit.
Following a successful year in 2023 where Fnatic was considered the best team globally, former head coach mini stepped down to prioritize work-life balance. Now returning as an assistant coach, he will support the new leader in maintaining Fnatic’s winning streak in 2024.
Here are Elmapuddy’s expectations for the upcoming season:
Esports.net: Starting the season with a win must feel great, but were you surprised by how close map one was?
Elmapuddy: We expected a cleaner performance, but we made some mistakes that cost us rounds. Our goal is to ensure the team is well-positioned and aligned in every round, especially with adjustments to our strategies from last year.
Lee Jones: Joining a team considered the best globally must bring unique challenges. How do you balance making changes while ensuring continuity?
Elmapuddy: The team has a strong foundation, and mini’s presence as an assistant coach helps maintain previous successes. I aim to introduce new elements while building on the existing strengths to stay ahead in the competitive scene.
The ultimate objective is to keep pushing forward, evolving strategies, and staying ahead to remain at the top of our game.
How do you navigate the goal of winning all global events amidst high expectations?
Success is measured by achieving our goal of winning every tournament. It’s crucial to balance peak performance timing to ensure we are at our best when it matters most, especially for major events like Champions. The team aims to continue building on its success from last year and reach new heights in 2024. Winning all three trophies is the ultimate goal for the team.
It’s a rare opportunity to have such exceptional players on the same team, and we aim to make the most of it by securing victories in all major competitions.
That’s our primary focus for the season.
