MSI offers a range of high-quality gaming monitors, but some models are creating dissatisfaction among customers. According to a Reddit thread, MSI has decided not to release firmware updates for a significant portion of its QD-OLED monitor lineup.
Despite being a relatively new player in the gaming monitor market, MSI’s monitors are equipped with vibrant QD-OLED panels and come in various sizes under the MSI MAG and MSI MPG series. The MAG series includes 27-inch, 32-inch, and 34-inch curved QD-OLED screens, while the MPG series offers flat screens in 27-inch and 32-inch sizes, as well as a curved 49-inch monitor. These monitors come with refresh rates ranging from 360Hz to 144Hz and offer a choice of resolutions from 2K to 4K or 5,120 x 1,440.
However, if firmware updates are a priority for you, it’s essential to note that most of the MAG models do not support them. This information was brought to light in a Reddit post shared by VideoCardz, where firmware updates through USB-B were listed as an “MPG-Exclusive Feature.”
While the MPG models and the MAG 341CQP monitor will receive firmware updates, the MAG271QPX and the MAG321UPX will not. These two MAG models are priced attractively for QD-OLED panels, but the lack of firmware updates may deter some buyers.
Despite this setback, MSI’s QD-OLED monitors are competitively priced compared to similar offerings from competitors. It remains to be seen if consumers will choose to pay more for models that support firmware updates. It is hoped that MSI will address this issue and provide firmware updates for its entire lineup in the future.
